It’s all in the details

The subtlety of details, neutral lace sweater with lace scarf

Denim with the subtlety of neutrals and lace
Denim and lace

I recently picked up this cropped sweater having no idea how to make it work. It’s short. Really short. With cut-out lace panels. I knew that until I invested in a pair of high-waisted pants, I’d have to get creative so as not to flash my middrift at work. Enter tank tops. Two of them, in fact. I’ve discovered that the key to making a lot of things work is in the subtlety of details; the contrast of layering neutral tank tops of different lengths, lace patterns under a lace panel sweater topped off with a lace scarf.

Ready to be cited for wearing just too much lace, I braved another windy day in Downtown Oakland in denim and classic black ankle boots. It’s hard to believe that I once lived in jeans; however comfortable they may be I much prefer dresses these days. It’s a completely different look for me especially as I ponder what it means to be a feminist with regard to my fashion choices. It’s been a hot topic lately, check out what these Feminist Fashion Bloggers have to say if your interest has been piqued. On Friday, I’ll be participating on a smaller scale about said topic.

Nail polish iridescent like scarab beetles
For my love of scarab beetles

Speaking of details, I was complimented yesterday on my nail polish while grocery shopping. I thought I’d share. I was drawn to this color because it reminded me of a childhood family vacation we took when we still lived in Lebanon. My dad drove us through Syria, Turkey, Greece and into Bulgaria. I have very distinct memories of playing with scarab beetles in Turkey. They were black with a mesmerizing green iridescence. Just like my nail polish.

Deets: Cropped sweater/ModCloth, tank tops/Nordstrom’s, scarf/Urban Outfitters, denim/Calvin Klein, black leather ankle boots/Munro, necklace/Claire’s Boutique.

I really love the lace detail at the bottom, next to the denim. Your style is very eclectic, one day you rock the mod-look, and the next you make romantic lace look perfect. I really admire that ability to mix things up and not get stuck with just one style or look if you will.

I love the nail polish I just did a post on that. That sounded like quite a bit of an adventure you had when you were younger.

It’s a beautiful sweater and I love how you’ve made this work with the lacy tank top peeking beneath and then the lacy scarf to top it all off.

Wow, this outfit is so elegant! I am really into lace these days. I love all the details in it! Then, getting to the nail polish just topped it all off! That color is amazing and I need to find it asap! :)
