A born storyteller

I live in The House in the Clouds. From my vantage point in the Oakland hills I sip my morning coffee and watch the fog roll away and down. Then, I get dressed.

My name is Fabienne, my moniker has been flyingfabu for over ten years. I have more energy than time, more creativity than energy, and now, this.

I’m a proper Goldilocks. Everything has to be just right except when caution is recklessly thrown to the wind for the sake of forward motion. I’m not blind to the contrary nature of this. I would rather express myself imperfectly than be paralyzed by perfection. I will not grow old defined by my fears, I will be defined by how I overcame them and how much fun I had in the process.

This blog is yet another outlet for words, style and whatever else makes a surprise appearance. It began in Fall of 2010 when I randomly decided to participate in kendi’s 30 for 30 challenge. I looked at my friend very seriously and declared “I need some way to document the photos.” He said start a blog. I took to it like a fish takes to water.

A friend of mine referred to me as a citizen of the world. I was born in Lebanon to a French father and a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern mother. I have spent most of my life in California, most specifically, the San Francisco Bay Area. I’m mom to the world’s cutest greyhound and cuddliest ball python.

I’m a creative consultant specializing in branding and packaging. I’m also a fiend about snowboarding, a regular runner and general aficionado of all things awesome: style, food, music, cars and my friends. I’ve always had an affinity for writing. I joyfully obsess over every aesthetic aspect of my life and spend hours playing dress-up every time I go shopping. The House in the Clouds is a natural extension of the ways I express myself in and around Oakland, California.

It took me until 2010 to realize this: I’m a born storyteller.

Hello Fabienne, Love your blog and sense of color! Found it when reviewing comments on Advanced Style. As a relocated (to the SF and now east Bay) area, I used
to see lots of ladies in NYC as photographed by Ari.
Their colorfulness was a welcome change from the uniform little black business suit that was once de rigeur. Probably still is.

I looked up the original post by the blogger who commented about the use of the word ‘ladies.” In reading it, i soon realized that the writer is from England and did not “get it.” These ladies are a particular style that is a combination of “old New York” and bohemian artist. The lady in England meant to be tongue-in-chic but came across as mean-spirited and has apologized for her comments.
Nevertheless, it sparked a lively debate with many rising to the defense of Ari and the ladies he loves to photograph. Best regards, joan

I am working with Donna Neumann, who is launching a capsule wardrobe product for the business traveler. Donna is both a fashion blogger and entrepreneur, so she was very interested when I found your site while searching for fashion websites/blogs. I see that you have a blogroll on your blog. I am writing to see if you would like to do a link exchange – I am impressed with your selection and sense of style, and hope that you will feel similarly once you check out Donna’s product: a capsule wardrobe for the busy business traveler ( Donna is also looking for guest blogging opportunities as well, if that is something you have done on your blog. Let me tell you a little more about Donna.

“In my years of professional and pleasure travel, I’ve come to the realization that while I love travelling, I’m not a big fan of packing. In fact, a couple of years ago, frustration with packing led me to search the Internet for any company that might offer a basic solution – I wanted a minimalist working wardrobe for women that could be delivered to my door. My search did turn up some travel clothes, including some coordinated pieces but not in the crisp, tailored style I wanted and not with sufficient pieces for a week of travel.

I decided to solve my problem. Based on professional research and personal experience, I developed a breakthrough business wardrobe that takes the stress out of shopping and guarantees matching pieces in the right size. My prototype wardrobe featured seven pieces. It worked well, but I needed one more top to make it work the way I envisioned. So I added in a shirt; some easy care fabrics and colours; devised a sizing and customization system; and with that I had the women’s wardrobe solutions you see on our website.”

If you would be interested in a guest blog or in listing Donna’s site in your blogroll, I would be happy to provide you any additional information. In exchange Donna would return the favor. Donna has a blogroll on her blog ( and would be happy to list your site in her blogroll, either linking simply using you name or if you prefer linking through using some of your keywords, that would work for her too.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

The terms UNIX hosting and Windows holding describe the operating system (OS) that is running on the web server. The operating system, of course, is the software program that allows the computer system to work and manage every one of the other hardware and software application that is mounted on it. Chances excel that you are reading this on a computer system running a version of the Home windows running system, the most prominent operating system in the world for personal and business computer systems.
