IFB Links à la Mode weekly roundup

01 May

Last week the post I wrote about tattoos was selected to be featured on Independent Fashion Bloggers weekly roundup, Links à la Mode. I’m very proud to be among such good company. I recommend checking out the posts by my fellow contributors.

While I typically focus on outfits-of-the-day posts, my dream is to make time to write more thoughtful in-depth pieces, especially as they relate to positive body image and personal growth. You might enjoy a couple other posts I’ve written in the past which were also selected by IFB, Favorite body parts and Shine your light on me.

More than Meets the Eye

Edited by Fajr Muhammad at Stylish Thought

When you visit a fashion blog you often see a stylish blogger posing in a perfectly, put together outfit with gorgeous scenery. What you don’t see is the work that goes into curating and maintaining a fashion blog. This week the theme across IFB was outfit posts: what deems an outfit worthy, what goes into creating a stunning visual post and ultimately the comments (some not so nice) that we receive as style bloggers. Ultimately, blogging is a way to express our love for fashion and personal style but as this week’s links can attest to, there is much more to fashion blogging than meets the eye.

IFB Weekly Roundup! Sheepish confession

13 Feb

Sleep deprivation didn’t work out so well for me this past week. I managed to completely forget to post the round-up when my post Favorite Body Parts made Independent Fashion Blogger’s top twenty. I was honestly so excited and honored that I don’t know how I managed to space out.

I’m comforting myself with the old “better late than never” and sheepishly posting this just a tad late. If you haven’t already checked out IFB, I highly recommend it. It’s a wonderful resource for style bloggers.  I also encourage you to read the other posts featured below. There’s a lot of good stuff to be had.

Links à La Mode: The IFB Weekly Roundup

So long, farewell

Edited by Thom of The Sunday Best
Here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. My run as an editor for this venerable list is coming to a close, and as it does I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what makes the internet such an awesome place. Ahem. It’s you. Yes, you! I don’t get to read as much online as I once did, and this list kept me in touch with the, dare I say it, zeitgeist of style writing. I was often amazed at the diversity of topics you writers were willing to tackle. Keep those keyboards clacking, stay strong, and be good to the incoming editors. We are only human.

Thomas…out.

30 for 30 Winter, day 3. Country Strong

03 Feb
Enhanced natural curls
I call this my totally gifted outfit!

Two things: One, I had not heard of the movie when the reference was made but I’m taking it as a compliment since my coworker was only making a reference to my hair and outfit and not the washed-out, has-been part. Two: I let my hair air dry last night and touched up my natural unruliness rather than fight it. Thank you Nicole for inspiring me to do this. I have come to value a large curling iron, a skinny curling iron and a straightening iron. They are my friends.

Three: I know, I lied. But I didn’t mean to. I’m hoping to spend a little quality time with the hubby this evening and I’m rushing through this like a woman on a mission. Back to Three: I made it on IFB’s weekly roundup today. I’m honored, flattered, excited, what can I say? I’ll post the whole kit and caboodle this weekend.

Now back to my house date. Ciao babes!

Wait! One more thing. I know I just made that four, I can count. So, Four: I’m wearing “mocha” microfiber tights from We Love Colors. You know what else? I totally love them. They got sent my way, I’m sending some love back. They’re nice and soft and stretchy and pretty darn opaque. The color is ever-so-slightly different that what my monitor displayed but I knew that would happen, such is the nature of monitor displays. Ultimately, the shade was what I expected and I’m very happy and grateful.

Deets: Plaid dress/Old Navy, gifted from Dotty, raspberry hand-knitted scarf/gifted by my “other” grandma Jeannie, vintage brooch/passed down from my mom, necklace/gifted by hubby, tights/gifted, We Love Colors, grey vegan faux cowboy boots/ModCloth, (they were gifted, too, by my bffs!), bracelet/gifted by my dad & his wife.

To quote the hubby: “Now everyone knows what a cheapskate you are.” That was cool! It was total accident that I didn’t wear anything I bought myself.

Links á la mode

31 Dec

Before I get completely carried away with excitement and festivities, here’s the complete Links Á La Mode post. Making the roundup was especially meaningful because the topic of women supporting each other is particularly dear to me.

When I consider my life purpose the only things that stands out is that I would like to touch people in a way that improves their life, whether it be through humor or inspiration. I’m very grateful to be featured this week.

LINKS Á LA MODE: THE IFB WEEKLY ROUNDUP

INSPIRATION NOW

After being a Links a la Mode editor for years, it’s really refreshing to come back and edit our end of 2010 edition! It felt so timely, too– the end of a year.  So many new, exciting things to look forward to.  New ideas, people, inspiration.  That’s where this round-up came from: inspiration.  It’s my hope that these posts will inspire you, as they’ve inspired me– as a reminder to step outside your boundaries to try something new.  As a reminder to look at the world around you.  To be bright and brilliant and love fashion & style.  To treat yourself well, to love yourself, and feed your mind & body all you need to thrive– and hopefully inspire and help you to be the person you want to be in 2011.
Hope you all have an amazing New Year!

IFB Weekly Roundup!

30 Dec
My favorite pass on the drive up.

Having too much fun and the fun hasn’t even started yet!

Guess what? Some of my friends just arrived at the cabin so lest I be considered unfriendly and asocial I have to keep this really brief. But first, this: I made the Independent Fashion Bloggers Weekly Roundup! I’m so excited!

I can’t show you the little happy dance I did in the car when I found out on the drive up. Just imagine a car jam packed full of stuff for ten days, complete with friend also crammed in the back, and me just dancing in the front seat. Yeah, just like that.

I can’t wait to read all the other posts that made it, some I think I already have. Sweet!

Deets: Retro owl design t-shirt/Threadless, sage capris/J Brand, brown boots/Uggs, cyan down jacket/Marmot, black beanie/Mountain Hardware, monkey fur baby blue gloves/Mountain Hardware.
