FBFF Q&A: Colorful world

11 Feb

Ferrari FF

As I mentioned last Friday, it’s Go Red for Women month. Some of us bloggers were inspired by fellow blogger Andie to participate in bringing awareness to heart disease in women by wearing red on Fridays. It so happens that I have yet to be captured wearing my red today and was once again in need of a proxy. It’s only appropriate to rely on my new favorite crush of the moment, the recently released Ferrari FF. I realize the impracticality of owning such an exotic car but don’t think I’d turn it down for a second. I’d go grocery shopping in it. I really would. Besides, it’s not that impractical. It’s a four-seater, four-wheel drive coupé, as they say on Top Gear, that puts out 651 horsepower. That’s what I’m talking about.

This week we’re discussing color in our fashion choices. You’ve probably noticed that there’s no shortage of color in this girl’s closet. Let’s get to the bottom of this, shall we?

FBFF: What color dominates your closet?
FJ: No a single one. I might have been Rainbow Bright in another lifetime.

FBFF: If money weren’t an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?
FJ: I think I would more mindfully shop for very specific shades only because I could afford to be that particular. Overall, I don’t think it would affect my wardrobe much.

FBB: What is your mantra about mixing color?
FJ: Mix to my heart’s desire! Seriously, I have no mantra other than the colors in hue and tonal value must look good together. Sometimes the effect is rich and monochromatic, other times it’s full of life and contrast. I dress for my mood. I don’t like being matchy-matchy, I like the colors to go well together. Also, they have to look good against my skin tone.

FBFF: For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?
FJ: The easiest way are tights and scarves. They can change the look and feel of an outfit immediately. I own everything in a colorful palette except for pants. Dresses, skirts, tops, you name it.

FBFF: Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?
FJ: There are a few but I have to say that hands down, Emma of Daily Clothes Fix takes it to the next level. Her level of commitment to an effect, color palette or style is consistent and unbeatable.

Check out some of the ways I’ve incorporated color via tights. In fact, quite of few of my most colorful options have come from We Love Colors, the most recent acquisition having been sponsored by them. I find that Hue and We Love Colors are on parity when it comes to quality and comfort. I have several pairs of microfiber tights from WLC. They’re pretty opaque, the color is consistent throughout and I find the waistband to be comfortable.

30 for 30 Winter, day 5. Fabulous in February!

07 Feb
In the mood for neutral tops

 Mocha tights and chocolate boots

It’s time to be Fabulous in February. Here’s the deal, this is the month of love and every Monday this month it’s all about self-love. Those of us participating are declaring publicly three things we love about ourselves. I can do that. Watch!

Numero Uno: I love surprising myself by doing unexpected things. I’m a total creature of habit and comfort who loves routine with the passion one reserves for chocolate cake. Yet, I’ll throw it out the door and do something totally unlike me just to see what it’s like. I love that I do that.

Numero Dos: I speak two languages fluently. I pretend to speak Spanish but I can only truly say one thing well and it has to do with how hot I may be this Friday night. Blame the BFF who taught me this choice phrase in high school. Eons ago, I tell you! You would never know how utterly useless it is given how many times I’ve been compelled to blurt it out publicly. I digress. Je parle le Français and some English, too.

Numero Tres: I like that I’m nice. It wasn’t always particularly cool to be nice and still sometimes it catches people off guard. I just don’t think I shouldn’t be nice just because someone might find it weird. I’m nice, suck it up, yo. That’s just how I’m gonna play.

Speaking of playing, look who decided to dress up like a little school girl today. Is wrong? Don’t answer. The little flannel of fun in a skirt just called out “take me home with you, you fool, I’m only $10″ at Urban Outfitters. Do you know why they have those little areas with mirrors called fitting rooms? So that one doesn’t end up with the wrong size like I did. It’s ok, I’m handy with a needle and thread and we’re going to be moving some buttons over soon.

Deets: Flannel skirt/Urban Outfitters, peach top/ModCloth, mocha tights/We Love Colors, brown vegan boots/Munro, bird & rose necklace/Linkel Designs, peridot ring/Ambiance, hand-carved wood earrings/Chicago.

Want to see something funny? The hubby decided to animate my pictures from this morning. It’s just me, walking and smiling, happy as a clam. I was actually laughing because I looked hungover in the first set of pictures and cracked myself up. Yep, laughing all by myself. Like I said, crazy neighborhood lady.

30 for 30 Winter, day 3. Country Strong

03 Feb
Enhanced natural curls
I call this my totally gifted outfit!

Two things: One, I had not heard of the movie when the reference was made but I’m taking it as a compliment since my coworker was only making a reference to my hair and outfit and not the washed-out, has-been part. Two: I let my hair air dry last night and touched up my natural unruliness rather than fight it. Thank you Nicole for inspiring me to do this. I have come to value a large curling iron, a skinny curling iron and a straightening iron. They are my friends.

Three: I know, I lied. But I didn’t mean to. I’m hoping to spend a little quality time with the hubby this evening and I’m rushing through this like a woman on a mission. Back to Three: I made it on IFB’s weekly roundup today. I’m honored, flattered, excited, what can I say? I’ll post the whole kit and caboodle this weekend.

Now back to my house date. Ciao babes!

Wait! One more thing. I know I just made that four, I can count. So, Four: I’m wearing “mocha” microfiber tights from We Love Colors. You know what else? I totally love them. They got sent my way, I’m sending some love back. They’re nice and soft and stretchy and pretty darn opaque. The color is ever-so-slightly different that what my monitor displayed but I knew that would happen, such is the nature of monitor displays. Ultimately, the shade was what I expected and I’m very happy and grateful.

Deets: Plaid dress/Old Navy, gifted from Dotty, raspberry hand-knitted scarf/gifted by my “other” grandma Jeannie, vintage brooch/passed down from my mom, necklace/gifted by hubby, tights/gifted, We Love Colors, grey vegan faux cowboy boots/ModCloth, (they were gifted, too, by my bffs!), bracelet/gifted by my dad & his wife.

To quote the hubby: “Now everyone knows what a cheapskate you are.” That was cool! It was total accident that I didn’t wear anything I bought myself.
